Back in October, soon after the release of Windows 10 Technical Preview, we showed how to get the Windows 10-style Start menu in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. The guide Windows 10 Start menu for Windows 8.1/7 shows how to install the Windows 10-style Start menu in its predecessors with the help of a third-party program called ViStart. Those of you who have seen the pictures of the latest build of Windows 10 will know that Microsoft has tweaked the Start little bit and it looks slightly different from the one in the first Preview build. If you’re on Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and love the new Start menu of Windows 10, then you can easily get it on Windows 7/8/8.1. PeterRollor, the man behind many eye-candy Windows skins and utilities, has released a new skin for ViStart to get the latest Start menu of Windows 10 in Windows 7/8/8.1. As you can see, the new Windows 10 Start menu skin for ViStart, brings the new search box and Start menu power button as well . If you’re looking for a even more functional taskbar search box, check out our how to get Windows 10-style taskbar search box feature in Windows 7/8 guide. Here is how to install ViStart and Windows 10 Start menu skin: Step 1: Head over to this page of ViStart, download the newest version and then install the same on your Windows 7/8/8.1 PC. Step 2: Once ViStart is installed, download the Windows 10 Start menu skin (RAR file) from here. Step 3: Extract the RAR file using WinRAR, WinZip or 7-Zip to a folder on your desktop or any other drive. You’ll get a folder named Neuer Ordner. Double-click on it to see two folders: Windows 10 Start menu new for Windows 7 and Windows 10 Start menu new for Windows 8 and 8.1. Step 4: Now, copy Windows 10 Start menu new for Windows 7 (if you’re on Windows 7) Windows 10 Start menu new for Windows 8 and 8.1 to ViStart’s skins folder. To quickly access the skins folder of ViStart, type %appdata%ViStart_skins in Run command box and press Enter. Step 5: Next, Type %appdata%ViStartLanguages in the Run command box and Press enter key. Rename the existing English.XML file to something else and then copy the English.XML that you got after extracting the RAR file of the downloaded skin to the Languages folder. Step 6: Run ViStart program again. If it’s already running, please restart the program to see ViStart icon in the system tray. Click on it and then click Options. Here, under Style tab, select the newly installed Windows 10 Start menu skin. That’s it! Good luck!
